Albany Technical College held its grand opening ceremony for the new Education Logistics Building in June of 2011. EMC Engineering provided professional surveying and engineering services for this project, working as a sub-consultant for Ellis & Ricket Architects and GSFIC.
Albany Technical College is a growing school with enrollment of close to 5,000 students! The Logistics Building, also known as Building “K”, served as the next phase in the College’s expansion. The 41,878-square-foot building was constructed, as well as a new entrance drive onto the campus that would be used as a joint driveway for the Department of Labor and the College. The original site was an undeveloped field that was being used as overflow parking for students at campus.
EMC provided site engineering and preparation of construction drawings based upon the site plan provided by the architect. A signal warrant analysis study at the intersection of Industry Avenue and Slappey Boulevard was required to assist in applying for a traffic signal at this location. Upon further completion, it was found that the intersection did not meet full requirements for the approval of a signal.
Offsite engineering design and stormwater quality design was needed to meet the City of Albany’s Stormwater Manual water quality requirements and to provide for stormwater detention at a location offsite from the study area. After the building was completed, design for an underground detention system and landscape irrigation reuse system was done and construction was completed in late 2011.
EMC also performed construction phase services such as preparation of Notice of Intent/Termination, initial NPDES inspection, site visits as needed, review of shop drawings and assistance with the bidding/award process for a contractor.
The dual entrance for the Department of Labor and the College was designed to meet all necessary criteria required for a Georgia Department of Transportation Intersection Permit Approval.
The Logistics Education Center is home to Albany Tech’s new student center, Logistics Education Auditorium, Culinary Arts Institute, Media Center, and a new Executive Board Room. The Center provides a location for the school to deliver teleconferencing, online logistics education, and an online education center for all other academic programs.
