Description:
Fort Gordon, established in 1941 as a World War II training camp, is located southwest of Augusta, Georgia. Becoming a permanent Army installation in 1956, Fort Gordon now houses the U.S. Signal Corps, which is responsible for providing and maintaining information systems and communication networks. As with all military bases it contains facilities that house fire and emergency medical personnel who provide vital emergency response to those on base. As Fort Gordon continues to grow, so too does the need for additional EMS facilities and equipment to maintain quick fire and EMS response. This US Army Corps of Engineers project provides a secondary location from which emergency medical services can be dispatched. The project included demolition of an existing parking lot and the construction of a building, parking lot, water/sewer services, and stormwater management facilities. The 1,852 sf building contains space for two (2) ambulance bays, an administrative support area that consists of one office and one training room, in addition to a paved access road connecting the ambulance bays to the adjacent roadways. The project also included analyzing/installing a new outfall control structure in a regional stormwater management pond to lessen downstream flooding. Stormwater quality was addressed through the use of inlet filters placed in the stormwater inlets coupled with a dry detention basin.
