DESCRIPTION:
Buckeye Creek once flowed beneath New Buckeye Road via three 8 ft. diameter metal culvert pipes. Due to age and the elements, these metal culverts began to rust and disintegrate, thus collapsing in the spring of 2021 necessitating their rapid replacement. Quick to action, the Johnson County Board of Commissioners sought engineering services to replace the culverts with the goal to reopen the road before year’s end. New, significantly longer, and stronger culverts were installed with three runs of reinforced concrete pipes, concrete headwalls, and aprons. The longer culverts allowed for 10 ft. shoulder additions on each side of the road, therefore making it safer for the traveling public. EMC was pleased to provide planning, civil design, bid administration, construction administration, and construction observation for this important infrastructure artery in Wrightsville, Georgia. The project was completed ahead of schedule and reopened to traffic on December 6, 2021.
