The project corridor is located in Chatham County, Georgia just northeast of President Street along the Savannah River. The project consisted of the reactivation of an existing rail bed that had been abandoned approximately 30 years ago. The purpose of the project was to install approximately 2,600 linear feet of rail in order to connect the Epic Midstream East and West Terminals. The railroad contractor for the job, who is also one of EMC’s largest industrial clients in the Savannah area, was Adams Warnock Construction. EMC was contracted to perform all of the planning, surveying, environmental, engineering rail design and permitting for the project. The design of the rail required it to be built entirely through the marsh and it had to meet current railroad industry standards. This resulted in the need to fill approximately 0.47 acres of jurisdictional coastal marshlands. EMC teamed up with Resource Land Consultants to perform the environmental services required for this project. Permits were obtained through the Department of Natural Resources, the Corps of Engineers, the Coastal Marshlands Protection Committee and Chatham County. The entire permitting process took over 11 months to complete. The rail construction was completed in January 2014.
