A vision of a shopping center at Canal Road and Golden Isles Parkway-Spur 25 in Brunswick, Georgia dates back to the early 2000s, with the purchasing of the land by a local developer. In 2014 the dream came to fruition with the Mainland Planning Commission’s approval of plans for the new shopping center. Canal Crossing currently consists of over 270,000 sf. of anchor stores in the main shopping center, with tenants Sam’s Club, Hobby Lobby, Academy Sports and Home Goods. Additionally, there are 15 out- parcels on either side of Canal Road that include Aspen Dental, Mattress Firm, Panda Express, Panera Bread, Cheddars and Outback to name a few. In 2017 construction began on out-lot 5, which contains Five Guys, Tropical Smoothie and Fuse Yogurt. EMC Engineering Services, Inc. is delighted to have worked with the local developer during the planning, design and construction phases of each new Canal Crossing development. New infrastructure to support the new developments include new roadways, widening roadways, traffic signal installations, utility (water, sewer and force main) extensions, and regional stormwater drainage improvements. EMC provided civil engineering, design, assistance with permitting, assistance on bidding/negotiating phases with contractors, moderated bi-weekly meetings with government officials/utility representatives/roadway and site contractors/tenants and owners, provided in-depth construction administration/inspection services and project closeout documentation.
